Volume Profile and Activity Map

A volume profile indicator for TradingView that reads its own profile — value area, support and resistance zones, low-volume gaps, naked levels and VWAP bands, calibrated for your interval.

  • 21 anchors, from a single session to a full year — the dashboard names the window it measures and grades the data behind it.
  • Every high-volume zone carries a strength score from 0 to 100, its retests and its delta, so you can see why it is on the chart.
  • No volume, no profile: a symbol without volume reads "unavailable" instead of showing an invented map.

What is Volume Profile and Activity Map?

Volume Profile and Activity Map is an invite-only indicator for TradingView that draws an anchored volume profile — point of control and value area — and turns it into support and resistance zones, low-volume gaps, naked levels, confluence markers and an anchored VWAP with bands. Every window carries a data-quality grade. It runs on any TradingView plan, for intraday and swing traders.

An anchored volume profile that reads itself

Most volume tools stop at the histogram. You get bars, and the work is still yours: find the value area, decide which clusters matter, remember yesterday's levels and guess whether the feed behind the profile carries real volume at all. A box at every cluster looks equally important, and a profile drawn on a symbol with no volume looks just as confident as one built on traded contracts.

Volume Profile and Activity Map reads the profile for you and shows its working. High-volume rows become a zone only when they stand out against the busiest row, and they are never merged across a low-volume valley. Each zone is scored for strength — volume mass, compactness and retests — and labelled with its delta. Every window is graded FULL, APPROXIMATE, DEGRADED or UNAVAILABLE, tick-volume feeds are flagged, and closed windows are frozen, so the levels you read yesterday are the levels you read today. The calibration behind it was tuned and tested over hundreds of hours on historical charts of the most traded markets.

POC and value area, zones, gaps and naked levels on one chart

  1. 01

    21 anchors, one profile

Measure a session, a calendar period from today to last year, the last swing or a rolling window. The POC, the value area (70% by default) and the histogram sit in the right margin.

  2. 02

    HVN zones by role

Zones below price read as support, above it as resistance, labelled with strength S 0–100, retests and delta. The zone price trades in gets a heavier border.

  3. 03

    LVN gaps with depth

Grey bands mark low-volume valleys between two nodes, labelled with their depth — places price tends to cross quickly.

  4. 04

    Naked POC, VAH and VAL

Levels of closed windows not yet traded through stay as dotted lines with their age — up to 12 by default, with an alert when one is tested.

  5. 05

    Reference profile

Yesterday's, last week's or last month's value as dashed levels; the Bias row says where price sits against both.

  6. 06

    Confluence markers

Where profile, zones and VWAP agree, a marker scores the agreement 0–100; each family of levels votes once.

  7. 07

    Absorption radar

A bubble on bar close where a lower-timeframe volume burst met little price progress; an adaptive threshold keeps bubbles rare. Bar-by-bar volume absorption is Volume X-Ray's job.

  8. 08

    Anchored VWAP bands

A VWAP from its own anchor with up to five standard-deviation bands, three on by default; the dashboard adds its slope and the share of bars above it.

  9. 09

    A dashboard that explains itself

Decisive shows 10 rows, Extended 16: the window, its data and grade, the bias and the nearest unfinished business.

How it decides what to draw

  1. It measures the right window.

On higher intervals short anchors are promoted — a day on a 1H chart becomes the week — and the Window row names both (THIS WEEK ← Today).

  2. It places volume where it traded.

Each bar's volume goes to the prices of the lower-timeframe candles inside it — 1-minute candles on a 5-minute chart — not spread evenly over the candle. Buy and sell are approximated and marked as such.

  3. It scores before it draws.

A row joins a zone only if it stands out against the busiest row (35% by default), never across a valley; two-hump runs are split. Strength = volume mass 50%, compactness 25%, retests 25%.

  4. It grades the data — and refuses when there is none.

Every window is graded FULL, APPROXIMATE, DEGRADED or UNAVAILABLE; tick volume reads TICK-BASED, and a symbol without volume draws nothing.

  5. It freezes what is closed.

Closed windows are final; bubbles and naked-level tests print on bar close; the developing window is labelled DEVELOPING.

Built on IQ — Intelligent Quantitative

Every indicator in the family stands on the same foundation, so it reads the chart the moment you add it — and your time goes into the market, not the settings panel.

In Volume Profile and Activity Map, Auto-Timeframe sets the number of profile rows, promotes short anchors on higher intervals, picks the lower-timeframe data inside each bar and tunes the absorption radar — and every one of those values also has a manual field.

  • Auto-Timeframe, on by default

Your chart interval picks a calibration profile tuned over hundreds of hours of testing on historical charts of the most traded markets — gold, oil, major currency pairs, indices, stocks and crypto. Change the interval and the indicator re-tunes itself.

  • Manual Mode for experts

Every value the calibration sets is also a setting of yours. Full control, nothing locked behind the automation.

  • Dark and Light, automatically

The indicator reads your chart background and switches colours and transparency on its own. Line weights and text sizes are set by role.

  • One family, one visual language

The same concept wears the same colour in every indicator. Combined, they divide the chart instead of duplicating it.

  • A universal session clock

Asia, London and New York run on their own city clocks, daylight saving is handled for you, and the instrument class decides which windows apply.

  • Honest by construction

Events print on bar close, closed windows stay frozen, and the data behind a reading is graded or labelled. No profit promises and no hidden guesses: when the data cannot support a reading, the indicator says so.

Use cases: gold, EURUSD, Nasdaq 100 and DAX

Examples come from closed historical charts and are used for education — they are not trade recommendations. New to the concept? How POC and value area work.

Gold 5-minute chart on default settings: value area around the POC, five zones by role and the TICK-BASED data flag
Five zones by role, one with price inside.

Gold (XAUUSD) · 5m · New York morning · defaults

What you read on the chart TODAY with its grade, 1-minute intrabar data flagged TICK-BASED; five zones by role, one holding price; the value area around the POC.

How to use it The nearest green and red zones frame the range the day has accepted. Use them as context for your own plan — tick volume counts price changes, not traded size.

EURUSD 15-minute chart with a London-window profile and violet naked levels of earlier London sessions with their age
The London profile and the untested levels of earlier sessions.

EURUSD · 15m · London session · Volume Profile Anchor = London

What you read on the chart A London profile on the London clock, daylight saving applied; naked levels of earlier London sessions with their age; the Naked row lists the nearest above and below.

How to use it Treat the nearest naked level on each side as unfinished business; the Naked Level Tested alert tells you when price returns.

Nasdaq 100 CFD 5-minute chart: today's profile, yesterday's POC and value area as dashed levels and the Bias row
Dashed pdPOC, pdVAH and pdVAL beside today's value.

Nasdaq 100 CFD (US100) · 5m · New York morning · defaults

What you read on the chart Dashed pdPOC, pdVAH, pdVAL beside today's value, three LVN gaps, and the Bias row against both value areas.

How to use it Compare today's auction with yesterday's value: acceptance above pdVAH, rotation inside it or a return to pdPOC.

DAX 1-hour chart with a weekly profile, three zones labelled with strength, retests and delta, and two low-volume gaps
Today is promoted to the week on 1H.

DAX (DE40) · 1H · the trading week · defaults

What you read on the chart The day promoted to the week; three labelled zones, two LVN gaps with depth, confluence markers.

How to use it The strongest zone is where the week did most of its business; the deeper gap separates two areas of acceptance most cleanly.

Frequently asked questions

Does it repaint?

Not on closed windows: they are frozen, and bubbles and naked-level tests print on bar close. The developing window updates by design and is labelled DEVELOPING — how to verify an indicator does not repaint.

Which TradingView plan do I need?

Any plan, including the free one. Where your plan serves no seconds data, 1-minute charts use chart bars and the Data row says so.

Which markets and intervals?

Any symbol with volume, from seconds to monthly charts. Cash indices without volume read UNAVAILABLE — use a futures contract or CFD on the same index.

What alerts does it have?

Nine: bullish and bearish absorption, naked level tested, POC, VAH and VAL crossed, reference VAH and VAL crossed, profile window closed. Use Once Per Bar Close — how to set up TradingView alerts.

Can I use it with other indicators?

Yes. If another one draws a profile, set Histogram = Off; if it draws volume nodes, switch Show Activity Zones off. One edition per chart.

Why is my POC different from another tool's?

Anchor, row size, data source and value-area share differ. An intrabar profile places volume where it traded; a chart-bar profile spreads it over the candle.

What does TICK-BASED mean?

The feed counts price changes, not traded size — common on forex and CFDs. For traded size, pick a related futures contract in Volume Source.

How do I get access and updates?

Give your TradingView username at checkout; the invite arrives within 24 h and the indicator appears under Invite-only scripts. Updates reach you automatically.

Can I get a refund?

The terms for one-time purchases and subscriptions are set out in our refund policy.

Should I buy it or subscribe?

Buy it if this is the one tool you need: $39.99, lifetime. IQ Universal ($29.99/mo) gives every Universal indicator, current and future, at a fixed price — one-time vs subscription.
